I love peanut butter. But peanuts are legumes and therefore not ideal. Now what?
Nut Butters. I love Almond butter, cashew butter, sunflower seed butter and macadamia nut butter. Maranatha is my favorite brand. They have no-stir almond butter which is great. There is nothing worse than the organic butters that separate causing the oil to float on the top. Not attractive.
I recently discovered Sunflower Seed butter. It is AWESOME. I eat it on my banana most mornings for that extra protein kick.
A little almond butter on apples is a great snack any time of day.
What is wrong with legumes? I like legumes.
ReplyDeleteI like them, too. And i'll admit i sneak beans into my chili now and then.
ReplyDeleteBeans are full of antinutrients and gut irritants. My gut doesn't like to be irritated. According to Robb Wolf's book, "The Paleo Solution"...
"Anything that damages the gut lining can predispose one to autoimmunity, multiple chemical sensitivities and allergies to otherwise benign foods." Ick.
Soy beans act like hormones in the human body. Eating them, for example, can cause women to have menstruations that last 2 days longer than normal. Meaning legumes even piss my ovaries off. Components of soy can affect estrogen activity and thyroid hormone function.
Legumes represent a source of refined carbohydrate that worsens blood sugar and insulin problems.
They taste good. But are the worth all that?
